“Sarge” was a three-sport athlete, who excelled in golf and basketball. A 1994 FHS graduate, he was a four-year member of the golf team, a two-year member of the varsity basketball team and a member of the baseball team as a senior. Mike led the Tigers to back-to-back trips to the Class M final four in basketball as a junior and a senior. His senior year, Farmington went 21-2 overall and advanced to the semis where they lost to eventual champion, Fall Mountain. He led the team in scoring (17.6 ppg) and rebounding (10.4 rpg), while reaching double figures in 22 of 23 games. Sarge was named Class M All-State First Team. “There’s a kid who only got better and better and better,” said high school coach, Mike Lee. “Mike had a drive to be better, to improve and stay within the team concept. He understood his role and was able to do a lot of the little things that people don’t notice. He was unselfish — sometimes too unselfish.” In golf, he was a four-year member of the Tigers, helping the team make the Class I-M-S tournament each year. He later attended Daniel Webster College where he played four years on the men’s basketball team, served as a captain and scored 1,202 career points. He set several team records that have since been broken. One mark that has stood the test of time and now stands forever as the school closed its doors in 2017 is career three-point field goal percentage (49 percent). Mike is a general manager at Best Buy. He lives in Middleton with his wife, Sara, and their son, Colton.
