A standout three-sport athlete in the late 1980s, Kelly was part of a talented group that helped Farmington girls’ sports to resurge. She was a four-year member of the basketball and volleyball varsity teams, while she was a three-year performer in softball at third base. The basketball teams went 64-5 during her final three seasons, advancing to the semis in 1988 and the program’s only NHIAA championship in 1989 (a 61-59 overtime loss to Mascoma). In softball, she helped Farmington to the tournament each of her three years, a record of 45-10. Her senior season the Tigers won a playoff game over Newmarket to advance to the Class M quarterfinals. In volleyball, the Tigers went 14-4 and made it to the Class M-S semifinals in each of her final two years. Kelly was an all-around forward in basketball, who could score, handle the ball, rebound and defend. She was a formidable hitter in volleyball. She played all three sports with a quiet, aggressive style. It’s hard to imagine any of the teams she played on having the success they did without Kelly in the lineup. She was the perfect mix of talent and fire. Hall of Famer Julie Gagne Gesner had this to say about her friend and former teammate: “Kelly is a great friend and was a tremendous teammate.  She always had a smile on her face while she pushed you harder than you sometimes wanted.  She was an aggressive player who would never let a loose ball go by. She was the player that coach Chase could count on to always try her hardest and require others to do so as well with her quiet leadership.” Kelly still lives in Farmington. She owns and operates Kelly’s Country Kitchen.
