Sheri Thurston is the quintessential volunteer – selfless, caring and loyal. That’s hardly surprising as she is the granddaughter of Walter Rouillard, one of the Farmington 500’s founding fathers and an inductee into the inaugural Hall of Fame.

Sheri got her start when her son, Adam, was young and playing Farmington 500 sports. She served for 10-plus years as a team mom in multiple sports at the rookie, minor and major league levels, as well as a tireless volunteer in the concession stand. She was an integral part of the 2001 Regional Committee when the 500 hosted the successful Cal Ripken 10-U New England Regional Tournament.

Former 500 President Joel Chagnon describes Sheri thusly: “The kind of person who never said ‘no’ to volunteering when asked, but often took the initiative to jump in and help and didn't need to be asked.”

Sheri continues to volunteer with the Farmington Booster Club, which she has done since 2003 when her son was a freshman (he is now the head boys hoop coach). She has volunteered with all aspects of the Boosters, but notably at the concession during basketball where she often runs it solely.

“I’ve enjoyed it over the years,” Sheri said. “I wish more parents would get involved.”

Sheri had been a bus driver for 23 years, the last 16 in Milton. She lives in Farmington.
