When you talk baseball in Farmington, there is no coach who enjoyed more success than Don Dinwoodie. Period.

Don coached at the youth and high school levels, enjoying success everywhere he went. He is best remembered as Farmington High School’s most successful coach. He guided the Tigers from 1997 to 2004, making the Class M playoffs all eight years and leading teams to a total of five final fours as well as three consecutive state championship appearances. His 2002 and 2004 squads were crowned Class M champions. The 2003 team finished as runners-up.

From 2001 to 2004, Farmington went 60-19 and 13-2 in the playoffs, the most successful stretch by any Farmington sports team when you take the three state championship appearances into account. Since Dinwoodie stepped down after the 2004 season, Tiger teams have won exactly one playoff game in 18 years.

When the Tigers won the 2002 title, going 18-4 overall, Don was fortunate to coach his son, Derek, who is also being inducted into the 2022 Hall of Fame.

Don got his coaching start in 1991 with the Farmington 500 Club. He coached youth baseball until 1995, including stints as a 10U and 12U all-star coach. His 1994 12U all-star team enjoyed a perfect summer of baseball, capturing five tournament championships in Maine and New Hampshire.

He coached the junior high baseball team in 1996 before taking over as high school coach.

Don has also worked with the Farmington Booster Club and, for the past 20 years or so, has kept the score clock for Farmington 500 and high school basketball games. He was also a  mainstay for 15-plus years as an umpire at the Courier Cup Wiffleball Classic.

Don retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 2018 after 41 years. He still makes Farmington his home.
