Derek is a 2002 Farmington High School graduate, who excelled in golf and baseball. He is generally recognized as one pf FHS’s greatest golfers, while in baseball he played a key role in leading the Tigers to the 2002 Class M state championship.

A three-year member of the Farmington baseball varsity team, Derek was a pitcher/third baseball. In 2002, he was a co-captain, leading the Tigers to an overall record of 18-4. Derek pitched in two of FHS’s four playoff wins, including a 5-1 complete-game decision in the championship victory over Gilford. In that game, Derek gave up one run on five hits, walked four and struck out nine. It was the best and last game he ever pitched.

Derek also had the game-winning suicide squeeze bunt to beat No. 1 and previously unbeaten Pelham in the semis, 3-2.

“He was a solid third baseman and a good hitter,” said his dad and coach, Don Dinwoodie. “He was the backbone of the team.”

As a golfer, Derek is still at it. This past year he won his first Seacoast Amateur Championship as well as his fifth club title at The Links at Outlook in South Berwick, Maine.

He was a four-year member of the Farmington HS team. His best finish at the NHIAA Class M-S championships was fifth. As a senior, he captured the prestigious title at the Waukewan Invitational.

Derek won two Junior championships at the Farmington Country Club, which he followed up with five club championships.

In addition to playing in the Seacoast Am, he has participated in the State Am where he has advanced to the quarterfinal round as well as the round of 16.

Derek lives in Rollinsford with his wife, Renee, and their son, Liam. He has worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 18 years, the last seven as an engineer.
