The Lancaster native graduated from Plymouth State University in 1978 with a B.S. in Social Science. He later earned his Masters in Education for Administration. For 30 of the next 31 years, he was an educator and coach in Farmington. He started teaching social studies at Main Street School, and went on to teach many different subjects to many different grade levels. He culminated his educational career by serving the last 10 years as Principal at the Henry Wilson Middle School. He retired in 2009, but still is working with Geskus Photography. His first coaching position in Farmington was junior high baseball. He went on to coach junior high soccer, and girls and boys basketball, high school varsity boys soccer and softball. He served as the athletic director in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In the early ‘90s, it was the norm for the cheerleaders to announce the starting lineups for the varsity basketball games. One night, the cheerleader who did the announcing was absent, so Butch pitched in. Thus began a practice that continues to this day. Who can forget Lewis’s vibrant opening -- “Good evening, sports fans …” Butch also officiated junior high and junior varsity soccer, baseball, softball and basketball. The last four years he returned to coaching, this time with the Farmington 500 for youth soccer. He coaches his grandson, Jacob. Butch still lives in Farmington with his wife, Kathy. They have two daughters, Jessica and Jillian, and three grandchildren, Jacob, Kelly and Matthew.
